The year was 1978. For three years, the Chota Falls founding couple had traversed North Georgia in search of mountain property just right for their family. Tallulah Gorge State Park is one of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks, or they can obtain a permit to hike to the gorge floor (100 per day, not available during water releases).

A suspension bridge sways 80 feet above the rocky bottom, providing spectacular views of the river and waterfalls. Tightrope walkers have twice crossed the gorge, and visitors can still see towers used by Karl Wallenda. A paved path follows an on old railroad bed, perfect for strollers and bicycles, while mountain bikers can test their skills on a challenging 10 mile trail.

Magnificent Mountain Waterfalls are one of the many attractions in and around North Georgia. The Rabun County and surrounding areas have many wonderful waterfalls to explore. Many are an easy hike along marked trails and some take a little effort, but are well worth the energy.

Minnehaha Falls Trail is a short, easy & kid-friendly ramble right by Lake Rabun to a stunning, cascading waterfall, especially after recent rainfall in the area.

Others notably in easy reach are the Angel Falls, Panther Falls, Moccasin Creek Falls & Hemlock Falls, just to name a few.

Moonrise Distillery is like old school, distilling spirits like it is still the early 1850s. While at times it seems like an old-fashioned, inefficient process, our use of tried and true methods and time consuming double-distillation removes impurities for a more refined and complex craft spirit.

Currahee Brewing Company has been in operation since early 2016, with 2 locations—one in Franklin NC and the other in Alpharetta GA—and a third upcoming location in Clayton, GA. Our main production facility is in Franklin NC, which is located right off Main Street sitting on the Little Tennessee River. Our brewery in Franklin includes a taproom, a bier garden overlooking the river, a kayak put-in and take out, outdoor music stage and a food truck. Our Alpharetta location is located right across from the city center on Main Street. We generally make all our test batches, and one offs at this location, with the brewery being located right behind the bar. We have a patio seating out back and outdoor seating up front. If you are hungry, we have counter service with our BBQ restaurant—Smokejack—next door, so you never have to leave the taproom to enjoy some delicious BBQ.
